Got in a bike wreck Saturday night. No one was hurt but the other guy's bike was damaged. I felt bad about it. It was in Adams Morgan. I was coming back from depositing some clothes in a donation bin on 18th St. Yes, I had an urge to donate old clothes late on Saturday night. I was cleaning my home which is a way of ordering my mind. Anyway the guy was riding down the left side of the road. It was Adams Morgan, late Saturday night, milling with traffic and revelers. I slipped around a doubleparked SUV and there he was, coming at me, no time to react. We both nearly went over with the impact but we stayed upright. Which is important to a bicyclist's dignity. His front tire was bent like a pringle potato chip. My bike was not even scratched. The angle of the collision was not favorable to him. He told me, Man, why weren't you lookin where you was going? And I started to point out that it was he who was riding pell-mell down the wrong side of the crowded road on a busy Saturday night, but he said, Man, I ain't even mad at you, this is my karma comin back to me. We touched fists and I carried on, feeling bad about the whole thing. The guy's tire was destroyed and he had to go on foot. He seemed like a good guy too. I ain't even mad at you he said. There are entire religions based on this idea.
